Rates and Government rent matters of Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po
Arrangements to exempt rates payment and settle Government rent on behalf of the owners and residents of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po
1. What are the details of arrangements for the relevant rates exemption and settlement of Government rent? Are the arrangements also applicable to the flat owners of Wang Fuk Court (WFC) who do not reside in WFC? If Wang Chi House, which was not directly affected by the fire incident, subsequently becomes habitable again, will the relevant rates exemption and Government rent settlement arrangements cease immediately?
The Government announced in December 2025 that it would exempt all tenements in the 8 residential blocks at WFC, irrespective of whether the tenement concerned was occupied by the owner or let, from payment of rates and settle the Government rent on behalf of the owners of WFC for the two quarters of October to December 2025 and January to March 2026. The subsequent arrangements are as follows:
Blocks A to G (i.e. Wang Yan House, Wang Tao House, Wang Sun House, Wang Kin House, Wang Tai House, Wang Cheong House and Wang Shing House)
This department has deleted all the relevant rating assessments in Blocks A to G from the Valuation List with effect from 26 November 2025. Therefore, all tenements in Blocks A to G are no longer liable for assessment or payment of rates from that date. The relevant arrangement for the Government to settle the Government rent on behalf of the owners will continue to be applicable until further notice.
Block H (i.e. Wang Chi House)
The arrangements for the Government to exempt rates payment and settle the Government rent on behalf of the owners will continue to be applicable to all the tenements in Block H so long as they remain uninhabitable due to the fire at WFC, and until further notice.
2. Are the rates / Government rent payers concerned required to apply for the relevant exemption from payment of rates and settlement of Government rent?
No application is required to be made by the rates / Government rent payers concerned. This department will not issue the demands for rates and Government rent to the payers concerned during the period for which the rates exemption and Government rent settlement arrangements are applicable.
3. What would be the arrangements for the rates / Government rent already paid by the owners and residents of the tenements at WFC for the October to December 2025 quarter?
Payers can contact this department for arranging refund of the rates and Government rent paid for the October to December 2025 quarter via the “One social worker per household” scheme, by telephone 2150 8270, or by email to rvdsupport@rvd.gov.hk.
